Aukje Grouwstra (1971) is fascinated by monumental works and objects in landscape. She is inspired by Civil Engineering buildings like sluices, bridges, towers and also gravedrums on graveyards. The worktitel ‘Baufrau’ implicates that she feels attracted to building constructions which contain technique.

She is digging for the essence of the construction, in order to find the authentic part of the original design; ‘the structures soul’.

The expossure of the soul of a bridge or of human itself and also of people in relation to their buildings. The environment is important; it is of influence on a physical level. The essence of design or soul of the building construction is also formed by its environment. This ‘forming field’ form arche-type to (operating) building is the working space of Baufrau.

Aukje Grouwstra (1971) is gefascineerd door monumentale werken en objecten in het landschap. Ze laat zich inspireren door de civiele bouwwerken binnen de architectuur zoals; sluizen, burggen, torens maar ook door graftrommels op begraafplaatsen. De werknaam ‘Baufrau’ wil zeggen dat zij een bijzondere belangstelling heeft voor bouwwerken die iets van techniek in zich herbergen.

Zij graaft naar de kern van het bouwwerk en wil daarmee het authentieke deel van het ontwerp vinden. Het blootleggen van de ziel van bijvoorbeeld een viaduct of van de mens zelf, maar ook van de mens in relatie tot haar bouwwerken. De omgeving is daarbij ook van belang; deze omgeving speelt voor het ontwerp een fysiek belangrijke rol. Het ontwerp of de ziel van het bouwwerk wordt mede gevormd door haar omgeving. Dit ‘vormingsveld’, van arche-type naar (werkend) bouwwerk op locatie is het werkveld van Baufrau.

Naast bouwwerken en sculpturen, initieert Baufrau kunstprojecten. Zij zet zich in voor behoud van unieke ‘bouwwerken’ in het landschap. Zoals Ode Oude IJsbaan Deventer, Mens als bouwwerk, Drente en Graftrommels; een tentoonstelling.
