In december 2009, four artists where invited to present their plans before the commission. The harbour quarter is an area in Deventer, where artists and creative corporations work. For the quay in public space, an artwork is desired.

For the art work in public space called “Porte Parole” Baufrau worked on this sculpture at the EKWC Den Bosch from october 2010 till january 2011.

From september 19th till december 19th 2008, I worked as an artist in residence at the EKWC Den Bosch. For three months I lived and worked in Den Bosch.
The works where exhibited in DAVO Havenkwartier Deventer “Loodzwaar Steengoed”.

Memorandum Old Iceskate rink; making art for the glorious former Deventer Iceskate rink (Rembrandtkade 195). One of Dutch first game tracks.

Ode aan de Oude IJsbaan; naar een kunstwerk voor de roemruchte voormalige Deventer ijsbaan aan de Rembrandtkade 195. Een van Nederlands eerste wedstrijdijsbanen.

Werk Baufrau: “Hogere Rede”

Baufrau stelt haar atelier ook open: Oostzeestraat 1 in het Havenkwartier.

Gravedrums are unknown to a lot of people. Still they are there on several cemeteries, mainly in the province of Overijssel. A gravedrum is made out of tin or zinc with a glass panel, mostly with a coronet of little flowers from porcelain.

Graftrommels zijn voor veel mensen onbekend. Toch staan ze, met name in de provincie Overijssel, op meerdere begraafplaatsen in Nederland. Een trommel van blik of zink met een glasplaat, veelal met een krans van porceleinen bloemetjes.

My artwork is inspired by civil engineering works as you can see in this pillar sculpture. For the exhibiton “Uncollectibles, under the skin” I moved this nextdoor pillar into the “Kunstenlab”.

Na de eerste kennismaking was er meteen een klik met Natuur en Milieu Overijssel (NMO). Vanuit het project Ongezouten, heeft Mieke Conijn van het Kunstenlab Deventer mij voorgesteld.

Someone showed me a picture of some men sitting at the table. “Oooh but you can see clearly, that this man is from peat and this man is from sand”. This fascinated me immediately; could you really see from which soil people are coming from, it sounds reasonable.

Iemand liet mij een foto zien van een aantal mannen aan tafel tijdens een bijeenkomst. “Oooh maar dat kan je zo zien, die zijn van het veen en die zijn van het zand” werd mij verteld. Wat ik mij meteen afvroeg of dit inderdaad ook zo is; het wordt vaak gezegd, maar kan je inderdaad zien van welke grond men komt en waaraan zie je dat dan.

In Deventer 2030 start niet de woningbouwcorporatie maar de buurt zelf de herstructurering. Mensen zijn makers en dragers van hun eigen buurt en geven aan welke huizen er gesloopt moeten worden en welke opgeknapt. Het woord herstructurering bestaat dan ook niet meer, maar heet iets van… opknap- of onderhoudsbeurt…
